Fishing in Creuse

Séjours pêche à la mouche à L'Ecole Buissonnière en Creuse

The Creuse has a considerable halieutic heritage with about 4000 km of rivers and brooks and 3000 hectares of lakes and stretches of water.
Our sector is representative of this richness with the Petite et Grande Creuse, plenty of small 1st category brooks and especially, the 3 lakes of the country of... the 3 Lakes' country ! , formed by the Age, the Chézelles and the Champsanglard dams.

So as not to lose you in a mass of unuseable information, we will simply describe and summarise the related aspects to fishing in our sector.
    Here is our practical synopsis:

    > Regulation

    > Piscicultural categories

    Fishing licences
    :
You can only fish with your membership card of  a Certified Fishing Association (A.A.P.P.M.). Do not forget to stick your identity photograph to this one. Six formulae are proposed:

    Licence with reduced taxes 1
Makes it possible to practise fishing only in 2nd category with 4 lines except rod-and-reel fishing, live bait, fly, shrimp net, carafe.

    Young licence
Makes it possible to practise fishing in the same conditions as the complete licence for the young people of less than 16 years old.

    Holidays licence
Makes it possible to practise fishing in the same conditions as the complete licence between the 1st of June and the 30th of September included throughout 15 consecutive days starting from the delivery date.

    Daily licence
Makes it possible to fish at the day but it is only granted by some A.A.P.P.M.

    Halieutic Club tax
Allows a complete fishing licence's owner, member of the Halieutic Club, to practise in all the other adherent departements. Creuse is concerned with this reciprocity.

Places of sale of the fishing licences

    Piscicultural categories

    1st category
Fishing is open from March to September. This category is home to a main characteristic salmon species including some beautiful specimens of brown trout (autochton stocks ), in particular in the sparkling rivers of the departement.
The grayling is also present, but only in some rivers (legal size: 30cm).
In the 1st category, fishing is authorized with only 1 fishing rod, except in the reservoirs where an exemption authorizes the fishing with 2.

    2nd category
Fishing is open there all year long except the specific closing periods of certain species (see our table, above). These waters shelter a chief characteristic
"cyprinidés" species. The number of authorized fishing rods is 4.
